BRYONY + TOM
BRYONY + TOM
Today, I’m throwing it back to another of my all time favourite weddings – the wedding of Bryony and Tom on 29th June 2019. This fabulous duo were married at one of the most incredible wedding venues I’ve ever been to, Gisburne Park Estate. When I arrived on the morning of their wedding, I was led through lush woodland down into a literal valley, over a quaint little bridge and up to an amazing riverside house. From the house, I could see their beautiful marquee set up just across the river in the middle of their very own private valley for the evening. My words could never do the place justice – I’ve honestly never seen anything quite like it.
Bryony was another bride to have been pointed in my direction by photographer Sarah Longworth – isn’t she amazing – and as a result, I knew we were going to be on the same wavelength from the get go. I had the pleasure of meeting both Bryony and Tom prior to their wedding, as we held the hair and makeup trial on location on the same day as their pre-wedding shoot with Sarah.
Since their wedding day, Bryony and I have certainly remained in contact and she has been another real cheerleader for me and my business. I’m so grateful to have been a part of their special day and had no doubt that I wanted to feature them in my new ‘Real Weddings’ blog series. I wish I could say that Bryony and I sat down together in real interview style, but hey Covid-19 and all…
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR OVERALL WEDDING STYLE?
“I wanted something quite neutral and fresh so that we didn’t get tied down to a particular colour palette or theme, in case I changed my mind during the 18 months we took to plan the wedding. In the end I went for green and white, quite simple but super easy colours to work with! Other than that we didn’t really have a style, we just found things we liked and made them work together.”
WHEN PLANNING YOUR WEDDING, WHAT WERE YOU LOOKING FOR IN A HAIR/MAKEUP ARTIST?
“As someone who spends zero time on her hair, and whose make-up consists of some mascara and eyeliner, I wanted to make sure my HMUA made me look like the best version of myself rather than some super glam lady far removed from me and my personality. So the first thing I looked for was an artist who did pared back beauty or showcased a range of looks on their website and social media. The second thing I looked for was a gauge on personality. I was super nervous about walking down the aisle, so was keen to try and find someone who was calm and unflappable.”
HOW DID YOU FIND MUBYLEIGH - HAIR & MAKEUP ARTIST?
“I can’t remember exactly now, but I think it was a combination of online research and recommendations. One of the other big draws to MUBYLEIGH – Hair & Makeup Artist (on top of her rave reviews and gorgeous portfolio) was that she was skilled in both hair and makeup. It doesn’t sound much but one less supplier to manage and organise on your wedding day makes such a big difference!“
WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO BOOK?
“In the end it was a really easy decision. Leigh was so likeable and personable. I knew we understand each other, her reputation preceded her and she had glowing recommendations (plus amazing online reviews). Her portfolio showed a range of work and our initial conversations made me feel very at ease about the looks she could create for me, so I knew I didn’t need to be worried about being an uber-glam bride far removed from the real me. Finally, her pricing was very fair. Her quotes were easy to understand, there were no hidden charges or late addings, and the payment structure was clear and simple.“
WHAT DID YOU LOVE ABOUT YOUR WEDDING HAIR AND MAKEUP?
“Everything! Leigh was fab from start to finish! She was so clam on the day, which kept me calm, and she made me, my 4 bridesmaids and my mum look and feel our most beautiful. She also made sure none of us were late, something I was sure I didn’t want to be! I’ve said it before and I will say it again, THANK YOU LEIGH, you were everything I could have asked for in a hair and makeup artist on my wedding day!“
Here is Bryony’s wonderful review, posted following her wedding day:
“Leigh was absolutely amazing at my wedding day – she is not only incredibly talented and skilled at both hair and make-up, but also so kind and such a calming influence! She made me, my mum and bridesmaids look and feel so beautiful. This was my first time getting my hair and make-up done professionally, and she listened and understood what I wanted despite my complete lack of knowledge in the area, and her professionalism continued even when I did a complete u-turn on the look 2 weeks before the wedding. I cannot recommend her enough – thank you Leigh!”
WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD GIVE FUTURE BRIDES-TO-BE?
“Don’t stress it! Enjoy it! Always try and remember you are planning your wedding day, so it should be fun and full of love. You should try and enjoy the process as much as possible. When planning our wedding, Tom and I had one rule. When we stopped enjoying the process, were getting stressed, or couldn’t make a decision, we’d stop and take a time out from ‘wedmin’ for a day, a week, a month, as long as it took for us to look forward to planning again!
Did I find myself having a meltdown because the ‘wrong’ chairs were ordered? Yes. Would any of the guests have noticed or cared that they were sitting on ladder back chairs instead of cross back chairs? Nope, absolutely not. Did I just need to get some perspective and take a break so that I could laugh at how ridiculous I was? Yes!“
ANYTHING ELSE YOU'D LIKE TO ADD?
“Each of our suppliers were 5* and we would highly recommend them all!“
